Super fast Meike 85mm F1.4 full-frame portrait lens unveiled

1 minute read

Meike has announced a rather fast new full-frame lens, an 85mm portrait lens featuring autofocus and two mount options. And it’s priced very affordably, so you won’t break the bank.

The Meike 85mm F1.4 full-frame portrait prime lens has some quality features, including:

  • Aperture range F1.4 to F16
  • Manual aperture setting
  • 13 elements in 8 groups
  • 12 diaphragm blades
  • Minimum focusing distance of 0.98m
  • Filter size of 77mm
  • STM stepping motor promises smooth and quiet focusing
  • Full frame Angle of view: Diagonal 28.87° Horizontal 24.1° Vertical 16.14°
  • APS-C Angle of View: Diagonal 19° Horizontal 16.14° Vertical 10.58°

The price of $469 is pretty outrageous (in a good way), especially when compared to Sony's own 85mm F1.4 full-frame E mount G Master Lens, which retails at $1799. Nikon has two similar 85mm primes, one that's F1.8 ($799) and one that's F1.2 ($2799), both are S-Line.

Check out some footage:

As an aside, Meike also has a nice line-up of affordable cine lenses, including full-frame primes, S35 primes, and much more. They can be used on RED, Blackmagic, Canon, Sony, ARRI, and other cinema cameras.

Tl;dr? If you’re using a Sony E-mount or Nikon Z-mount camera, this could be a creative option for stills or video and it’s priced relatively affordably. Learn more at Meike’s website. And remember, both Sony and Nikon have identical or very similar lenses that cost hundreds or even thousands of dollars more than the Meike lens.

Meike does offer a similar 85mm full-frame lens, it’s an F1.8, not that much slower, and offers E, Z, and X (Fuji) mount options. There is another that supports EF and F mounts and both retail between $179 and $199. Something to consider.
