Only a month after release, the mighty DJI Osmo Action 6 gets a firmware upgrade that unlocks 8K30 capture and more.
We were already big fans of the $379 DJI Osmo Action 6, saying that it set new benchmarks in action camera performance. One of its comparative weaknesses, however, especially when measured up against the Insta360 Ace Pro 2, was that it topped out at 4K120.
The Ace Pro 2 will go up to 8K30, and now the Action 6 does too, firmware update 01.02.05.21 adding support for 8K video at up to 30 fps. This is very welcome and arrives so soon after the new camera, which only came out last month, that it's almost odd that it wasn't part of the base spec on release.
There's more in there too. Users can now upload directly from the camera to a variety of cloud destinations including Baidu Netdisk, Quark Netdisk, OneDrive, Google Drive, and NAS, and Focus Peaking assistance when a macro lens is attached. Here's the full list of new features.
Looks like we're going to have to edit its entry in our list of Best Action Cameras of 2025. And we might have to create a US-specific version at this rate too.
