BenQ MA270S 5K Mac monitor: Studio Display alternative at $999

BenQ has announced the MA270S, a 27-inch 5K monitor aimed squarely at Mac users who want a display that matches the look, feel, and behavior of Apple's own screens without the Apple price tag.

The new BenQ MA270S features a Nano Gloss panel with true 5K resolution (5120x2880), matching macOS native pixel density. Brightness of the 70 Hz display is officially rated at 500 nits (as an aside, some online specs have it at 450), with 99% P3 color coverage and a 2000:1 contrast ratio.

The whole idea behind the company's Mac-optimized MA series is that it provides a seamless third-party integration into the Mac ecosystem at a lower price point. As such the MA270S features iKeyboard Control, which lets users adjust brightness and volume directly from their MacBook keyboard. Display Pilot 2 software adds Auto Brightness Sync, FocuSync (which mirrors macOS window-based brightness adaptation), and iDevice Color Sync for consistent color across multiple Apple devices.

It connects via Thunderbolt 4 with 96W power delivery, plus a 15W Thunderbolt 4 output for daisy-chaining. There are also two HDMI 2.1 ports. A Smart KVM switch allows a single keyboard and mouse to control two systems, while Picture-by-Picture support lets users view content from multiple devices simultaneously.

The stand offers 150 mm of height adjustment without wanting an extra $400 for the privilege, making the potential savings here even greater.

Pricing and availability

The MA270S will be available from March 2026, priced at $999 — a significant undercut compared to the $1599 Studio Display. A launch promotion offers 20% off a second unit, applicable to both the MA270S and the similarly-specced, designer-focused BenQ PD2730S, which comes in at $1099.
