Sony RX10 teaser: what we know so far

Sony has teased a new RX10 model, its first update to the long-zoom compact in nearly a decade. The camera will be announced July 9.

Sony is teasing the announcement of a new model of its RX10 long zoom compact next week. Captioned "The wait is over. A new RX10 is coming 7/9/2026," it doesn't reveal much more than a silhouette of the camera's lens and body.

The wait has been a long one. The RX10 IV was released all the way back in 2017, and was discontinued a while back. With its 24-600mm f/2.4-4 fixed mount zoom lens, it has been one of the most popular bridge cameras of the past decade, with a set of trade-offs for that powerful zoom that made sense to a lot of people.

Coming just under two years after the Mk III, it would have been reasonable to assume an update to the Mk IV before now, but we'll take it. The teaser is completely devoid of any information regarding exactly what the upgrades to what was a winning formula will be, but you'd think that we'll see some significant advances thanks to that 9-year dev cycle even if, as rumor suggests, the lens and sensor stays the same.

The likely list includes improved AF, an updated image processor that opens up AI integrations, higher frame rates, and more. USB-C is a given.

The announcement will be at 07:00 Pacific / 15:00 BST on July 9.
