Sony's FX5 cinema camera looks to be slipping down the schedules once more, with multiple Sony sites in Europe now listing its shipping date as November 16. Is the rear LCD the issue?
Sorry to be the bearer of ill tidings regarding the Sony FX5 once more, but Sony's own direct-to-consumer sites in multiple European countries, including the UK, France, and Germany, are now listing November 16 as the first ship date for the Sony FX5; one month later than their previous listing.
As yet, US listings at resellers such as Adorama remain unchanged from the previous October 16 date. However, it is worth noting that last time we went through this cycle, the European date moved first with the US listings catching up a few days later.
The last addition to Sony Japan’s original August 18 statement on the delay is still dated September 18, 2026. But as that reads 10月下旬以降, which translates as “late October or later” for the target timing, technically there is no reason to change it as yet.
The postponement covers the FX5 camera body along with three related accessories: the DVF-EL1 OLED viewfinder, the XLR-H2 XLR handle unit, and the VMC-BNCU1 timecode adapter cable.
The only official statement on the matter blames 生産上の都合, “production-related circumstances.” This too has yet to be updated with any more information. PetaPixel though has a fairly convincing story that originates with a user in Mexico City that the issue might be related to a problem with the rear LCD. Given the three month and counting delay, and a backlog of thousands of preorders that need addressing, that's the sort of manufacturing defect that feels in the right ballpark at least.
