Sony BURANO V3.00 and a7 V V2.00 firmware

Sony releases firmware V3.00 for the BURANO and V2.00 for the a7 V. The BURANO gains two new imager scan modes including FF 5.8K 6:5 for anamorphic shooting; the a7 V adds 96 kHz, 32-bit float audio via the new XLR-A4 adapter.

Sony has released firmware updates for two of its highest profile cameras, with the BURANO cinema camera receiving its most substantial update since launch and the a7 V gaining a significant audio upgrade in the wake of the release of the a7R VI.

BURANO V3.00

Sony was as good as it's word, releasing v3 firmware in May

The BURANO's V3.00 has been long trailed and has dropped in May just as promised.

It adds two new imager scan modes. The first, FF 5.8K 6:5, is aimed at full-frame 2x anamorphic shooting, capping out at 30 fps. After de-squeeze, the mode delivers a 2.39:1 frame from the full vertical height of the sensor, bringing the BURANO's anamorphic workflow in line with what VENICE 2 operators have had for some time.

The second new mode is S35c 3.8K 16:9, which runs to 120 fps and extends the camera's appeal for sports, documentary, and live event work. X-OCN recording support is also added for the existing S35 1.9K 16:9 mode.

On the peaking side, V3.00 adds Normal Peaking and expands Color Peaking with selectable edge detection methods (Rising Edge, Falling Edge, or Both). Real-time Tracking AF gains multi-selector target selection, and LAN, WiFi, and USB tethering can now be configured directly from the status screen.

For live production users, which is an increasingly competitive arena for the high-end cameras, V3.00 adds HLG Mild, simplified SDR display and SDR Gain, support for FPS, Shutter, and Saturation commands from RCP, and selectable output range for SDI and HDMI. SDI output when Monitor FHD is enabled now includes metadata overlay.

a7 V V2.00

The Sony a7 V gains 96 kHz, 32-bit float audio recording via the XLR-A4 adapter in V2.00

The headline addition to the a7 V is 96 kHz, 32-bit float audio recording, available when Sony's new XLR-A4 adapter is attached to the Multi Interface Shoe. The XLR-A4 was launched alongside the a7R VI last week, and offers two combo XLR/TRS inputs, a 3.5 mm mic input, physical gain controls, and an integrated mic holder; it records separate WAV files in-camera.

Elsewhere, V2.00 adds Preset Focus support for lenses without power zoom, focal length display to one decimal place, and simultaneous Delete and Rating across both memory card slots. FTP functionality is expanded with SFTP server support and new Transfer & Tagging options covering automatic scheduling of protected stills transfer and auto-protection of FTP-uploaded stills.

The update also adds Write Digital Signature for movies under Sony's Camera Authenticity Solution, though licenses for most users are not yet available. Volume Photography features (Scan and Tag, Photo Cropping, Volume Photography Commands) are included under a paid license, due from late May 2026. Note that lens firmware can no longer be updated via the camera menu using a memory card; the Windows/Mac software tool is now required.

Both updates are available now via Sony's support pages.
