Sachtler has added four new models to its aktiv and FSB Mk II fluid head ranges. The aktiv16T and aktiv18T, plus the FSB 16T Mk II and FSB 18T Mk II, are designed for ENG and documentary professionals working with larger shoulder-mounted rigs, as they now support maximum payloads of 16 kg (35.3 lb) and 18 kg (39.7 lb) respectively.
Sachtler’s aktiv heads have made a name for themselves thanks to their SpeedLevel technology, which enables operators to release, level, and lock in seconds without taking their eyes off what they are shooting. They provide 7 drag settings for fast, fine adjustments, and 15 steps of finely calibrated counterbalance. Couple this with the SpeedSwap system that allows for swift changes between tripod, slider, or handheld setups, and a mounting design that enables low-angle shots when paired with a flowtech tripod, and you have an extremely adaptable piece of kit.
The new top-end payloads now make it even more flexible. Previously, the range topped out at 14 kg (30.86 lb), now a whole host of larger digital cameras can be used with the system.
Alongside the new aktiv heads, Sachtler has also released two new FSB Mk II heads in the same payload capacities. These offer decent ergonomics, smooth drag, and counterbalance with a traditional tie-down design that works across Sachtler tripods, Hot Pods, and small pedestals.
The aktiv16T, aktiv18T, FSB 16T Mk II, and FSB 18T Mk II will be available from October 2025 as head-only units or in complete tripod systems, including flowtech and ENG configurations. Pricing as follows from:
