Here's some decent weekend viewing for you if you have a spare few minutes; a fascinating in-depth YouTube interview with RØDE founder Peter Freedman.
RØDE founder Peter Freedman is, of course, a bit of a legend when it comes to audio products, having established the Australian company as one of the leading forces in global audio. The interview comes courtesy of Mark Bouris, who's a bit of a legend himself in Australian business circles, and is busy paying his expertise forward via his Mentored platform, podcasts, and other channels.
It's a fascinating interview too, charting Freedman's journey from dropping out of high school and being told he’d “never make it,” to building one of the industry's most iconic brands.
"It's a Danish 'O'," he says of the Ø in the company name. "I just added that. We made up the name and I added that to make it more European. I didn't start RØDE to make any money. It was just a little bit extra. I was doing in-stores and clubs and stuff. I've told the story many times: I screwed it up in the late '80s, borrowed a lot of money and got into
trouble. Lost my house, lost my walk to work. It was a nightmare. I had eight years of hell. But from that came this."
