RØDE has released a free firmware update that extends its Bluetooth-based Direct Connect technology from the Wireless Micro mic to the Wireless GO (Gen 3) and Wireless PRO.
RØDE's Direct Connect is a useful capability that allows users to connect mics directly to iOS devices via the RØDE Capture app without the need for a physical receiver. It was launched last year with the Wireless Micro and has proven popular as it eliminates the need for any additional connectivity hardware or accessories, not only streamlining mobile setups but making them more cost-effective too.
It has now been extended to the Wireless GO (Gen 3) and Wireless PRO mics via a free firmware update. This is all part of a spirited response from RØDE to growing competition from a new generation of Chinese manufacturers such as DJI into its wireless mic space. This also saw the Australian company permanently drop prices of the mics by 33% and 25% respectively last year.
Working through the RØDE Capture app opens up some interesting workflows. In merged mode, for instance, audio from both transmitters is combined into a single, ready-to-publish stereo track. In split mode, meanwhile, each transmitter is recorded to a separate channel for greater flexibility in post-production. In-app output gain control also makes it easy to adjust recording levels on the fly for what RØDE says are consistently balanced results.
RØDE’s Wireless GO (Gen 3) and Wireless PRO ship worldwide. The Wireless GO (Gen 3) is available to purchase in a range of colorways for $199, while the Wireless PRO can be purchased for $299.
