Several new lenses have recently been introduced from manufacturers like Viltrox, Tamron, and Tokina. Plus the two fast, full-frame ZEISS Otus ML lenses get a Nikon Z mount option.
Viltrox has unveiled a compact, very wide, and fast new AF lens as part of its Air lineup, the 15mm F1.7 Air APS-C lens. Features include a 84.9° view, fast and silent autofocus, 12 elements in 10 groups (3 ED, 3 HRI, 2 aspherical, making it sharp while cutting down on chromatic aberration), 58mm filter thread, and a 22.5mm full-frame equivalent. Lens mounts include XF, E, and Z.
It is indeed a small lens, weighing between 6.34 and 6.9 oz. (180 to 195g), depending on the lens mount. It’s 2.2 inches long (56mm), so it won’t weigh your lens bag down.
The Air set of lenses are priced more affordably, and APS-C focal lengths include 25mm, 35mm, and 56mm, all at F1.7. There are some full-frame lenses, as well, such as 20mm (F2.8), 40mm (F2.5), and 50mm (F2.0), supporting Z and E mounts.
The Viltrox AF 15mm F1.7 Air APS-C will retail for $239. Learn more here.
The Tamron 18-300mm f/3.5-6.3 Di III-A2 VC VXD has proven to be a popular zoom lens since its release in 2021. The all-in-one zoom lens had been available only for Sony E and FUJIFILM X mounts, and the wide focal range is equivalent to 27-450mm, full-frame. Tamron is now releasing versions with Canon RF and Nikon Z mounts.
Features include fast and silent autofocus via the twin VXD linear motors (Voice-coil eXtreme-torque Drive), a minimum focusing distance of 5.9” / 0.15m (wide) 39” / 0.99m (tele), 1:2 maximum magnification, a 16.6x zoom ratio, VC image stabilization (Vibration Compensation), angle of view of 77°24'-5°30' (Sony, Nikon, and FUJIFILM) and 73°49'-5°10' (Canon), 19 elements in 15 groups, 7 aperture blades, and a 67mm filter thread and 75.5mm maximum diameter.
You can pre-order both lenses now and they each retail for $629. Click here for more details.
Two new focal lengths have been added to the high-end Tokina Cinema Vista-C prime lens set, including 21mm and 29mm. The Vista-C lenses feature high resolution, focus fall-off, minimal focus breathing, red and blue flares thanks to new coatings (compared to green in the other Vista series of lenses), and coverage up to 65mm large format sensors.
Specifications include a very fast maximum aperture of T1.5, 9 curved aperture blades, a 46.7mm image circle, 112mm front filter size (114mm front diameter), 300° focus rotation angle, and supported mounts of PL, EF, LPL, MFT, and E.
The Tokina Cinema Vista-C T1.5 Prime lens set focal lengths include 18, 21, 25, 29, 35, 40, 50, 65, 85, 105, and 135mm, all at T1.5. Even if you don’t purchase every lens, you can still get a fairly complete set from wide to telephoto.
Pricing for each lens, the 21mm and 29mm, is $14,999, which is in line with premium cinema lenses. Get more details on the entire Tokina Vista Prime-C T1.5 lens set here.
Finally, the ZEISS Otus ML F/1.4 50mm and 85mm lenses with Z mount are finally shipping. Originally announced earlier this year, these lenses included Sony E and Canon RF mount options and were targeted at full-frame mirrorless cameras with still photography in mind.
ZEISS’ Otus ML feature high resolution glass, 260° focus throw, 10 add diaphragm, internal focus, and a de-clickable aperture ring. Even with the stills-first design, filmmakers and cinematographers can still take advantage of this fast new glass.
The ZEISS Otus ML 50mm F/1.4 with Z mount retails for $2,499 while the 85mm costs $2,999. You can learn more here.
