Kron Technologies has launched the Chronos Q12, a high-speed camera reaching 2313 fps at full resolution and up to 29,515 fps at reduced resolutions, priced from $19,995.
Canadian developer Kron Technologies has finally announced the Chronos Q12 high-speed camera, built for capturing high frame rates at standard resolutions, is now shipping. First announced as far back as November 2023, the Q12 captures 2313 fps at its native 2560 x 2016 resolution, rising to 29,515 fps at reduced resolutions.
Other resolution/frame rate combinations include 2560 x 1440 at 3116 fps, 1920 x 1080 at 5148 fps, and 1536 x 864 at 7471 fps.
It’s not strictly aimed at the creative industry. Indeed, in its press materials it lists researchers, engineers, scientists, and industrial professionals before it mentions creative teams. Nevertheless, as many have found out before, when you crank things up to 5148 fps in Full HD, you can get some interesting results. It can’t though record continuously, so is limited at max res to recording 5.7 seconds with the 64 GB model, or 11.5 seconds with the 128 GB one. A 1 TB internal SSD though at least means you don’t have to transfer footage off after every take.
The Chronos Q12 is available now, priced from $19,995 for the 64 GB configuration and $21,995 for the 128 GB configuration.
