Insta360 has confirmed the X6 will launch on 12 August. Here's what leaks and the official teaser reveal about its design, sensors, video specs and price.
Insta360's next 360-degree camera has been leaking for weeks, and now Insta360 has confirmed some of the details of the Insta360 X6 with the release of a teaser video for the new camera.
We now have a confirmed launch date of August 12. The camera will feature dual 1-inch custom Sony image sensors, a dedicated AI chip system, and shoot 8K 360 video. Here’s a brief roundup of everything else rumored so far culled from a wide range of FCC filings, retail packaging photos, and leaker posts.
But first, the sizzle reel. And it’s a good one.
Hands-on photos posted to Reddit by u/FunnySushi1738 show the X6 next to both the X5 and GoPro's discontinued Max 360. These show that the new camera is shorter and wider than the X5, closer in proportion to DJI's Osmo 360. Reported dimensions put the body at roughly 10 cm (3.9 in) long, 5 cm (2.0 in) wide and under 4 cm (1.6 in) thick, weighing around 195 g (6.9 oz). The touchscreen sits directly beneath the rear lens, and the OLED display is rumoured to hit 1200 nits of brightness.
Dual 1-inch sensors are now confirmed. This contradicts early reports from WinFuture of two 1/1.1-inch image sensors, so it remains to be seen whether the rest of the leaked specs hold up. Those earlier reports also put each sensor at 42 MP, combining for 360-degree stills up to 120 MP. The X6 is also said to support 10-bit colour in 360 mode alongside Dolby Vision and I-Log profiles, plus an updated Adaptive Tone 2.0 system for exposure in mixed lighting.
Leaked video specs highlight the clearest upgrades over the X5, which was already a very capable unit as our review showed. Leaks point to 360-degree recording at 8K50, a frame rate that would allow half-speed playback for slow motion. Retail packaging shared by notorious leaker Igor Bogdanov suggests 8K30 recording in a mode Insta360 is calling PureVideo, aimed at low-light performance. Single-lens mode is rumoured to unlock 5K60 or 4K120, with an 11K timelapse option in full 360 mode.
The retail box image lists a 2600 mAh "Extra Xtreme" battery, up from the X5's cell, with Insta360 marketing up to 140 minutes of 8K30 360-degree recording (some leaks put single-lens recording as high as 233 minutes). The packaging also confirms Replaceable Lenses 2.0, an updated version of the innovative swappable lens system introduced on the X5.
Pricing leaks have been fairly consistent: a base model at roughly $670 to $795, and an Essentials bundle, including a 114 cm invisible selfie stick and protective accessories, at around $899. As already mentioned, Insta360 has confirmed the official unveiling for 12 August, with pre-orders expected to open the same day.
