Insta360 X6 launches worldwide: 8K 360 camera confirmed at $669.99

Insta360 has launched the X6 worldwide, confirming an 8K, 50fps 360 camera with three-in-one modes and a $669.99 price, up from the X5's $549.99. 

Insta360 bills its new flagship 8K 360 camera as the biggest leap in the history of the X series. It has a point, though the leap in price over the X5 is unwelcome.

The Insta360 X6 has been widely leaked in the past few weeks, so much of what the company has revealed about it today is more of a confirmation of the details than anything.

Amidst that, though, we do get two very key details. Availability, which is immediate and worldwide (yes, including the US). And price, which starts at $669.99. This is up $120 from the X5’s $549.99 when it was introduced in April 2025, probably as a consequence of the new unit now featuring on-board recording for the first time (47 GB of usable built-in storage out of 64 GB total).

Sensors and processors

What is now official is the sensor size. Custom dual Sony 1/1.1" square sensors deliver what Insta360 insists is full 1-inch equivalent 360 imaging. Either way, the company states that this is 33% more sensor area than the X5 and around four times the light intake per frame.

Behind the sensors sits a triple AI chip: one 8-core 3.3GHz 4nm flagship processor paired with two dedicated imaging chips. Together they bring 500% more computing power than X5, a 106% faster clock speed, and 35% lower power draw (as you see, Insta360 is very comfortable with making stats comparisons with the previous generation). That should all result in sharper detail, cleaner color, and denoising that holds in the dark.

A new low-light mode also adds two ambient light sensors to cut flicker and pull more out of night scenes, while AdaptiveTone 2.0 meters each lens on its own and captures two exposures per frame for wider dynamic range.

X6 is also billed as the first 360 camera with native in-camera Dolby Vision, analyzing dynamic metadata frame by frame to set contrast and brightness for each shot. It shoots 10-bit color with more than 1.07 billion recordable colors. Stills go up to 120 MP in 360 mode and 42 MP flat.

3-in-1

Insta360 is insisting that this is more than just a 360 camera. It reckons that it is a 360 camera, a subject-tracking gimbal camera, and a single-lens action cam all in one body. And that it switches between all three in a tap.

We’ll have to see exactly how that holds up once we get into the reviews, but on paper it works. In 360 mode it records natively at 8K50, capturing the whole scene so footage can be reframed after the fact. InstaFrame 2.0 tracks people, pets, and objects to produce flat 4K video with no separate editing step.

Paired with the new Foldable Selfie Stick Remote Kit, its joystick adds gimbal-style shooting without a separate gimbal, while paired with the POV Head Tracker, framing follows the wearer's eyeline instead. Turn your head to look at something, and in theory the camera does the same.

In single-lens mode, the X6 shoots up to 5K60, wide-angle up to 170 degrees at 5K30, or 4K120 for slow motion.

FlowState stabilization and 360 Horizon Lock keep footage level.

Hardware

The 2.32-inch OLED screen hits 1200 nits peak brightness and stays always-on, while the Full Screen Press feature keeps controls usable with gloves. The new 2600 mAh Xtreme Battery records 140 minutes of 8K30 360 video, 51% longer than X5, and fast-charges from empty to 80% in 24 minutes. It operates down to -20°C (-4°F). Star-Ridge cooling runs 10% more efficiently than competing 360 cameras and adds an insulated grip for sustained 8K recording.

Having replaceable lenses is no longer such a USP with DJI planning on introducing them with the Osmo 360 II, but Replaceable Lens 2.0 is five times more scratch-resistant and 60% cheaper to replace than the previous generation.

Physically it weighs 196 g (6.9 oz) and measures 50 x 100 x 40 mm (2.0 x 3.9 x 1.6 in) with the lens fitted, or 50 x 100 x 26.4 mm (2.0 x 3.9 x 1.0 in) without it. It comes in Midnight Black and Arctic White.

NFC enables touch-to-connect pairing, WiFi 6.0 transfers files at up to 100 MB/s wirelessly, USB 3.0 hits 450 MB/s wired, and Bluetooth pairs in five seconds and reconnects in under one.

Audio

The X6 has a 360-degree omnidirectional windproof four-mic array plus a separate Hidden Engine Mic for motorcycle riders that filters wind and isolates engine sound. Intelligent Audio Mode adjusts automatically to the environment, audio can be recorded in Dolby Atmos, and Direct Connect supports two Insta360 Mic Air or Mic Pro transmitters at once.

Accessory ecosystem

Thanks to using the same magnetic mounting system used on X5, X4 Air, and the Ace series, the X6 supports more than 100 accessories. There are some new ones for this release though. Notable additions include the X6 Power Selfie Stick (180 extra minutes of runtime), the Foldable Selfie Stick Remote Kit, the Bullet Time Selfie Stick 2.0, and a Fast Charge Case with dual battery and dual SD slots.

There is also a dedicated motorcycle set that adds a holographic speed dashboard overlay, auto-looping dashcam mode, and automatic license plate blur. Cycling accessories add stats-overlay support for Garmin, Apple Watch, and other platforms.

The Invisible Dive Case Pro takes X6 to 60 m (197 ft) while keeping the stitch line out of frame. This is up from the unit’s standard 20 m (66 ft) waterproofing.

Car mounts include a 1/4-inch adapter and an Electric Suction Cup Mount for glass.

Post-production and AI

X6 shoots in I-Log for extended dynamic range, and Insta360 Studio remains free on Mac and Windows for multi-clip 360 editing, stitching, and export.

Insta360 PanoMind, though, takes all this further.Insta360 says PanoMind has been trained on more than 10,000 hours of footage across 30-plus scenarios and is described by the company as the first 360-native AI model built to understand a full spherical scene rather than a flat frame. Its AI Director feature builds a highlight edit from on-camera footage while X6 charges and delivers finished clips to the Insta360 app; processing runs on-device rather than in the cloud, and the feature can be disabled.

Auto Edit 2.0 turns one or more clips into a complete edit, including framing, camera movement, cuts, music, and transitions, in a single tap.

Given that the usable 47 GB of storage will fill up fast, there is also the Insta360+ Cloud Service. This offers up to 2 TB of storage with opt-in backup that runs while X6 charges. Shared links open a full 360 view rather than a flattened clip. Files uploaded to the cloud can also be used with Moments Pro, a cloud-side editing tool built with Google Gemini: users set a subject, mood, style, and timeframe, and it generates videos automatically.

Pricing, availability, and insurance

X6 goes on sale August 12 at the Insta360 Official Store, Amazon, and authorized retailers, with the Standard Bundle priced from $669.99 (£619 / €699) and the Essentials Bundle at $799.99 (£709 / €799).

Buyers who purchase and activate X6 before September 30, 2026 get one year of Insta360+ Premium cloud storage (500 GB) plus three months of Moments Pro (two clips per month) at no extra cost. Buying and activating X5 or X4 Air in the same window gets one year of Insta360+ Premium at 200 GB.
