Hohem has unveiled the Eyepic, billed as a world’s first detachable pocket gimbal camera that shoots native 4K vertical video and doubles as a wearable action cam. It arrives Q1 2027.
Berlin’s IFA often goes a bit under the radar as CES takes up so much of the yearly supply of oxygen in the consumer electronics space. But it’s as big, if not bigger, and while it cannot set the agenda for the year ahead, there is always interesting stuff to see at the show.
Hohem has one of the standout devices there too, in the shape of the Eyepic, a 2-in-1 pocket gimbal camera. Gimbal cameras are possibly the hottest camera category of them all at the moment, with new models from DJI and Insta360, the DJI Pocket 4P and Insta360 Luna Ultra, pushing the market to ever greater size and sophistication.
As well as litigation, the two companies are also locked into a bit of a development war, so it’s almost surprising to see a company come up with something new in the space. Indeed, Hohem reckons it has a world’s first in the shape of the Eyepic, billing it as the first device that combines a stabilized handheld gimbal with a detachable camera unit for hands-free shooting.
The camera unit uses three-axis stabilization and sits on a handle with a 2.51-inch (6.4 cm) touchscreen that rotates to switch between landscape and portrait orientations. The camera itself reorients to shoot native 4K vertical video at up to 2160 x 3840 at 60 fps, without cropping.
Hohem also used IFA to show two smartphone gimbals, which is arguably the field where it is better known. The iSteady V4 Ultra and iSteady X4, both feature Apple DockKit tracking, and the Mic 2 wireless microphone system, which supports up to four transmitters over a 300 m range.
The Eyepic is expected to reach market in Q1 2027. Pricing and final specifications will be confirmed closer to launch.
