The Dream Chip Atom Two is the world's smallest global shutter camera, and now it's rainproof.
The Dream Chip Atom Two is tiny to say the least. It measures 29.6 × 29.6 × 34 mm (1.16 × 1.16 × 1.34 in) and weighs 55 g (1.9 oz), including lens and stereo microphone. It has an integrated 4.5 mm lens with a 90° field of view, making it suitable for sports coverage in applications such as referee bodycams, goal-line cameras, yacht masts, and drones.
Uniquely, it uses a global shutter sensor, avoiding the distortions associated with rolling shutters. Indeed, according to the company, the Atom Two is currently the smallest available global shutter camera.
It outputs 1080p60 from its 1/1.8-inch sensor, but has been known to succumb to bad weather. The new rainproof housing should sort that out and protect the camera against weather exposure, meaning it can be used in more places more often.
“Atom Two Rainproof delivers the reliability broadcasters demand,” says Dr.-Ing. Jan Peter Berns, CSO / CFO at Dream Chip. “Together with the global shutter, that makes it simple to match the Atom Two to system cameras, so directors can freely intercut without visual disturbances. The outcome is more insight, more angles, and higher production values for the viewer.”
