Over on our sister site, RedShark Sound, we have been running a series of studio profiles. in this installment, we take a look at Rockfield Studios, where some all-time iconic songs such as Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody were recorded. By Jim Evans.
The famed South Wales residential recording, which has now been in commercial operation for more than 50 years, was the world's first residential studio, established by Charles and Kingsley Ward in 1963 in the attic of the main house of their Monmouth family farm. It was a mono studio with a Phillips valve 2-track tape machine, an Elcon mixer and miscellaneous outboard equipment.
