Tokina has expanded its already highly versatile Vista cinema prime range with a brand new 40mm T1.5 variation, which looks perfect as a go-to focal length.

Tokina has just announced a new 40mm T1.5 addition to its range of Vista cinema primes. 40mm has apparently been a much requested focal length, and on a full-frame sensor will give a very natural field of view, noticeably wider than the much used 50mm length.

It might not seem much of a difference between the 35mm and 50mm options, but subtle changes to the field of view, depending on the framing, are in fact quite noticeable, and closing that gap between the two focal lengths gives cinematographers a lot more subtly in their choice.

The new lens will take its place amongst a set that includes 135mm, 105mm, 85mm, 50mm, 35mm, 25mm, and 18mm variations, all with T1.5 capability.

It has been designed with an area of definition of 46.7mm, covering sensors such as the RED Monster 8KVV and Arri ALEXA LF Mini 4.5K Open Gate formats. It will also cover the ALEXA 65 2:1 Open Gate imaging area.

As per other lenses in the range it features a 114mm front diameter and weighs 2.25kg and it is available in PL, EF, MFT, Sony E, and LPL interchangeable mount options. This makes the lens highly practical for users who will be using it on different camera types. It also means that for rental houses the lens can be configured in-house to cater for the type of camera it will be rented out with.

The Tokina Cinema Vista 40mm T1.5 will be available for USD$7,499. For more information visit the Tokina website.
