G-Technology, makers of external hard drives and chassis, has just launched a new ruggedised version of its EV drives at CES 2015

Hot on the heels of LaCie's Rugged RAID, basically there are two versions of the new G-Technology units: the G-Drive ev RaW which is a USB 3.0 drive with transfer speeds of up to 136MB/s. It is 35% lighter than the previous version of the G-Drive and features a rubber bumper that protects the drive from drops of up to 1.5 metres. The G-Drive ev RaW costs $99.95 for a 500GB model and $129.95 for 1TB.

Then there is the G-Drive ev ATC which is a USB 3.0 or Thunderbolt drive with a transfer speed of 136MB/s The case for the ATC is fully water and dust proof and can protect the drive from drops of up to 2 metres. Plus if the drive does get dropped in water the case will float. The 1TB Thunderbolt model is priced at $229.95 and the USB3 model is $179.95

The ATC (All Terrain Case) has a tethered Thunderbolt cable that is also protected from dust and water and comes with a separate USB3 cable. It will also be avalable as a separate item to allow current owners of G-Drive ev models to protect their units at a cost of $129.95

Both drives come with a three year limited warranty. Here is a look at them in action.
