Sony's new RM-DP7 and RM-DP5 combine camera control with monitoring for Cinema Line cameras, shipping January 2027 for a high-end €3300/£2800 and €2500/£2100.

Sony has launched two external controllers for its Cinema Line cameras, the RM-DP7 and RM-DP5, combining camera control with monitoring in a single unit. At launch, both are compatible with the FX5, FX3, FX2 and FX30, with support for the FX6 and BURANO planned via a firmware update in the second half of 2027.

The controllers let operators check and adjust settings while positioned away from the camera, including focus (with compatible autofocus lenses), zoom (with compatible power-zoom lenses) and exposure. Alongside touch operation, a control knob, multi-function dials and assignable buttons give quick access to frequently used functions.

Each unit uses a Full HD (1920 x 1080) panel with brightness up to an approximate 2000 nits, and is individually calibrated at the factory with continuous compensation for chromaticity and color temperature drift during use. Both the RM-DP7 7-inch and RM-DP5 5-inch units support six preset looks and up to 16 user LUTs, compatible with 17- and 33-grid .cube files.

Both models also offer HDMI input and output for wired monitoring. The RM-DP7 additionally supports 12G-SDI, with bidirectional conversion between SDI and HDMI. Wireless connection is supported with select third-party transmitters. At launch, Sony plans to support the Hollyland Pyro Ultra and Teradek Bolt 7, with presumably the potential for more to be added down the line.

Both units have an aluminum body designed with dust and moisture resistance for outdoor production use, and support multiple power options: BP-U series battery and USB Power Delivery on both models, with DC input on the RM-DP7 only.

Pricing and availability

Given the competition in this space from third-party companies, it’s no surprise to see Sony staking out a position at the premium end of the market. The 7-inch RM-DP7 ships in January 2027 at €3300/£2800, with the 5-inch RM-DP5 appearing the same month for €2500/£2100.
