Sony RIALTO 65: 65mm sensor block for VENICE 2

Sony has announced the RIALTO 65, a modular 65mm format sensor block for the VENICE 2 camera. A first-half 2027 release is targeted; the unit debuts at Cine Gear Expo in Los Angeles this week.

Sony is developing the RIALTO 65, a new image sensor block for the VENICE 2 that brings 65mm format capability to what is already a high-end camera platform. The unit is targeted for release in the first half of 2027, and along with the VENICE Extension System, is making Sony's flagship system increasingly modular.

Like the original Extension System, RIALTO 65 can be mounted directly to the VENICE 2 body or separated from it via a cable. This should give operators flexibility in mounting configurations without changing the camera body or breaking compatibility with current VENICE 2 accessories and setups.

Sony says the new sensor will be one of the industry's largest with approximately 2.2 times the light-receiving area of a full-frame sensor. It will have a diagonal of approximately 64.60 mm (width 53.75 mm, height 35.83 mm) and a 3:2 aspect ratio. It will also support 9.6K 3:2 open gate recording as well as multiple readout modes to maintain compatibility with 65mm format lenses that have narrower image circles.

RIALTO 65 will be on show at Cine Gear Expo in Los Angeles from June 5, 2026.
