Sony FX5 ship date and OM System PEN delay

Written by Andy Stout | Oct 14, 2026, 9:20:08 AM

The Sony FX5 now lists a November 16 ship date in Europe. OM Digital Solutions says some Japanese PEN pre-orders will arrive in November or later.

Whisper it slightly quietly unless the gods listen and decide that we’re all tempting fate way too much, but it looks like the delayed Sony FX5 may actually meet its revised November 16 ship date.

One of the websites keeping closest tabs on the whole affair is sonyalpharumors. It reports that a small number of users who actually received their cameras in August and had to ship them back for repair now either have the repaired units back in their hands or have received a note saying that they will be on its way to them in October.

It might potentially even be sooner than that. While Sony’s European sites still list November 16 as the shipping date, in the US, Adorama still insists that availability starts October 15. That is, er, tomorrow. Amazon, meanwhile, simply directs people who search for it to the FX3 instead.

All this will come into focus soon and the good news for the thousands of people who seem to have placed pre-orders (it ranks as the number one release in Amazon’s Professional Grade Video Cameras listings despite being unavailable) is that the long and needlessly messy saga may be finally drawing to a close.

OM System PEN delays

Meanwhile, in its home market of Japan, the new OM System PEN has proved so popular that there is now a backlog.

“Regarding the OM SYSTEM PEN and related accessories, scheduled for release in late October 2026, we would like to inform you of the following about product deliveries in Japan,” says a company statement.

“We have received a very large number of pre-orders for this product, and some customers may not receive their orders until November or later. We deeply apologize for the great inconvenience this causes to customers who are waiting for the product and to everyone else involved.”

The camera was scheduled for a late October release. The situation may be better outside of Japan, with both US and UK sites accepting pre-orders. The US site goes as far as saying that the estimated release date is today, October 14, while the UK lists a delivery lead time of 2-3 weeks.

Unlike with the FX5 there seem to be no production issues in what may, or may not, be a global delay; just a case of demand outstripping supply according to the company. We’ll keep an eye on it all and update when we can.
