Sony FE 600mm F6.3 GM OSS delay: ship date

Sony Japan says orders for the FE 600mm F6.3 GM OSS have far exceeded expectations and "delivery may take some time." Sony Europe currently lists an October 23 ship date.

Following the well-publicized delays in the Sony FX5, Sony Japan has issued a statement regarding the delayed shipping of another high-profile product in its fall release schedule, the FE 600mm F6.3 GM OSS G Master super-telephoto lens.

“Orders for the FE 600mm F6.3 GM OSS (SEL600F63GM), a lens for α (E-mount) digital cameras, opened on Tuesday, September 29, 2026. We have received significantly more orders than we anticipated, so delivery may take some time.

“We are doing everything we can to meet our customers' needs, and we ask for your patience in the meantime.”

Sony Europe websites, which have often been the canary in the coal mine for tracking FX5 delays, currently have the ship date for the $3699 lens listed as October 23. Meanwhile, the FE 400mm F4.5 GM OSS, which was announced at the same time, is currently scheduled for October 7.

The original announcement simply talked of October deliveries for both lenses, so the FE 600mm F6.3 GM OSS is still technically within that window. However, given that the company obviously prefers not to make official announcements regarding delays if it can help it, it has to be considered the date might slip.

There are no current indications that the problem is related to the delays affecting the FX5. While not specifying details, Sony’s official line with the FX5 has consistently been about “production-related circumstances” rather than demand outstripping supply. FX5 rumors currently point to a problem with the rear LCD, and Sony Europe’s revised ship date remains November 16.
