Sigma 50-120mm F2.8 DC OS: price and release date

Written by Andy Stout | Oct 8, 2026, 9:32:22 AM

Sigma's 50-120mm F2.8 is a 390 g (13.8 oz) APS-C telephoto zoom for $799, arriving October 22. The 16-300mm also arrives for Nikon Z.

Sigma has announced the Sigma 50-120mm F2.8 DC OS | Contemporary, a telephoto zoom lens for APS-C cameras covering approximately 75-180mm in 35mm equivalent terms, with a constant F2.8 aperture. That makes it a decent all-round performer, especially given its comparatively low price and light weight.

The lens is small, especially for what it delivers, coming in at 99 mm (3.9 in) long and 390 g (13.8 oz), at least in its Sony E-mount version (X and RF will also be available, RF taking it up to 410 g). It joins the Sigma 10-18mm F2.8 DC DN | Contemporary and Sigma 18-50mm F2.8 DC DN | Contemporary, rounding out a trio which together weigh less than 1 kg (2.2 lb). Sigma points out that a full-frame equivalent set would come in at nearly three times that weight.

The optical construction uses one FLD glass element, three SLD glass elements, and four aspherical elements, and is designed to minimize focus breathing. Autofocus is driven by an HLA (High-response Linear Actuator) motor. Sigma’s OS2 algorithm delivers 6.5 stops of stabilization at the wide end and 4.5 stops at the telephoto end.

Switches such as the focus mode switch and the OS switch have been removed. This helps explain its compact lightweight form, while also allowing Sigma to describe it as having a minimal interface that remains intuitive to operate.

The lens is dust- and splash-resistant but not waterproof, and the front surface has a water- and oil-repellent coating.

Pricing and availability

The Sigma 50-120mm F2.8 DC OS | Contemporary will be available on Thursday, October 22, 2026, in Sony E, FUJIFILM X, and Canon RF mounts for $799.

Sigma 16-300mm F3.5-6.7 DC OS | Contemporary for Nikon Z mount

Sigma has also announced a Nikon Z mount version of the Sigma 16-300mm F3.5-6.7 DC OS | Contemporary, an all-in-one zoom lens for APS-C mirrorless cameras with a zoom ratio of approximately 18.8x. Sigma describes the 18.8x zoom ratio as the world's first for an AF interchangeable lens for mirrorless cameras.

Maximum magnification is 1:2. An HLA motor drives autofocus and Sigma says a specific control algorithm covering AF drive and communication speed optimization was developed for Nikon Z mount lenses. It offers 6 stops of stabilization at the wide end and 4.5 stops at the telephoto end, supports AF-C (Continuous AF) and in-camera aberration correction (supported cameras only). The mount is rubber-sealed.
