Remoto's Playback 1.9 update introduces Capture Agent, which streams from secure studio workstations without physical access. Windows support and a new SRT/WebRTC streaming infrastructure are also new.
Remoto has released version 1.9 of Playback, its professional remote review platform, adding Capture Agent, Windows support, and Apple Tahoe compatibility.
Capture Agent is a macOS system tray application that lets hosts stream from a remote machine while controlling the review session from a separate local computer. It can be pre-installed on studio workstations by authorized machine room technicians or rental houses before editorial systems are deployed. During session setup, organizers select the target Agent and authenticate through Playback, enabling remote stream control without direct workstation access.
Remoto holds TPN Gold Shield status from the Motion Picture Association, and Playback 1.9 also extends platform support to Windows PCs for teams working across mixed OS environments, joining the existing macOS, iOS, and Apple TV native apps. A newly developed streaming infrastructure, Remoto Streaming Service, delivers SRT streams to native app users and WebRTC streams to browser participants. Multichannel audio up to 16 channels is supported via the Opus codec, with options for discrete routing, local decoding, and stereo fold-down. Browser users are limited to 7.1 maximum; sessions mixing above 7.1 require all participants to use native apps.
New collaborative features allow any participant to share additional project content alongside the main stream, intended for sharing visual references or research during early creative development.
On the workflow side, a "Reuse" button lets organizers clone settings and guest lists from any previous session. The User Profile has been redesigned for faster access to security settings and team account management.
According to the company future developments include enterprise security capabilities and expanded HDR workflow support. Both of these are due before the end of the summer.
Playback is available via single on-demand sessions, pre-paid time bundles, or usage-based billing for concurrent multi-host sessions. Individual sessions start at $3, bundles at $55. Fixed-price unlimited room plans are expected in July 2026.
