OWC's newest Thunderbolt 5 dock adds dual HDMI outputs, a vertical or horizontal stand, and passive cooling built to handle a fully loaded port array without overheating or tipping.
At IBC2026, OWC's Larry O'Connor introduced us to the company's third Thunderbolt 5 dock, and its first with dual HDMI outputs designed to sit either vertically or horizontally on a desk. O'Connor framed the orientation options as part of OWC's broader approach: rather than a single one-size-fits-all product, the company offers small configuration differences across its range to match individual workflows.
The dock supports two directly connected displays plus HDMI output, with a third display available via a Thunderbolt downstream USB-C port. O'Connor said users can add further load on top of that, including an OWC ThunderBlade X12 (up to 96 TB), which the dock can drive at 6400 MB/s alongside the connected displays.
Connectivity includes two downstream Thunderbolt 5 ports, dual HDMI, additional USB-C ports, 2.5 GbE networking, and an SD and microSD card reader, alongside audio, all routed through a single cable to the host system.
O'Connor said the dock uses passive cooling throughout, avoiding fans to reduce dust ingress, potential fan failure, and noise, while its weight and design are intended to prevent tipping even when every port is loaded. He positioned the dock, and OWC's wider lineup, including its ThunderBay, ThunderBlade, and Envoy products, as infrastructure that should function reliably in the background so users can focus on their own work. And that is really all any of us can ask for.
