OM System PEN release in Japan moves to November 28 after pre-orders exceeded expectations. Retailers elsewhere are still taking orders.
The Sony FX5 looks increasingly likely to meet its latest November 16 release date, nearly three months after it was originally meant to ship. But the supply problems affecting the camera industry continue with the OM System PEN the latest camera to slip down the schedules, at least in its Japanese home market.
In a machine-translated statement, OM Digital Solutions says it has postponed the release of the eagerly anticipated mirrorless camera and related accessories from October 30, 2026, to November 28, 2026.
The company says pre-orders exceeded expectations, and that only some customers could have received the product on release day, depending on type and color. It now plans to release the camera once it has secured enough stock for all customers who had confirmed pre-orders by September 10, the date of the first delivery delay notice.
As far as we can tell at the moment, this is a problem in Japan only. Retailers around the world are still listing the camera as either in stock or available for pre-order. PetaPixel’s fancy new Pixel Meter review aggregator gives it an 86/100 score, though, so it would not be impossible for demand to put stock under pressure elsewhere as well.
In related news, the entry deadline for the “My Journey, Written with PEN: OM SYSTEM PEN Launch Commemoration Campaign” moves from November 19, 2026, to April 19, 2027. The eligible purchase period (September 9 to November 5, 2026) is unchanged, and pre-orders or orders in that window qualify even if delivery comes later.
