OM System has launched the PEN, the first interchangeable-lens camera in the series. It adds a built-in EVF and IPX1 weather sealing, with prices starting at $999.
After several teases that heightened anticipation, the OM SYSTEM PEN, the first interchangeable-lens camera in the PEN series to carry the OM SYSTEM brand, has just been announced. It's not the PEN-F reimagined for a new era some had hoped, with a body based on the somewhat plainer and plasticier E-P7, but that's not to say that it doesn't have some attractive features.
The new MFT PEN has a rangefinder-style body with (drumroll please) a 2.36M dot electronic viewfinder and is the series' first dustproof and splash-proof model, IPX1-rated when paired with compatible lenses.
It has decent stats, though it does top out at 4K30. The sensor is a 20.37-megapixel effective Live MOS unit, paired with OM System's TruePic IX processing engine, and 5-axis stabilization rated to 5.5 stops. Autofocus uses a 121-point, all cross-type on-chip phase-detection system with AI subject detection for people, cats, and dogs, plus a dedicated Starry Sky AF mode. Pro Capture buffers up to 12 frames before the shutter is pressed, at up to 30 fps, and the camera also supports vertical video and S&Q (slow/quick motion) video shooting
The camera pairs with OI.Share v1.5, which adds a Profile Library for saving color and tone settings and applying them across up to 10 registered OM SYSTEM cameras.
It’s compact as you would expect, coming in at 393 g (13.9 oz) with battery and card, and measuring 125.8 x 74.5 x 43.3 mm (4.95 x 2.93 x 1.70 in).
The body ships in silver or black at $999 (body only), $1099 with the new 14-42mm F3.5-5.6 III kit lens, or $1299 as a double-lens kit with the 14-42mm and 40-150mm lenses. The new kit lens is also available separately at $349, alongside a new BLS-7 battery (1285 mAh, approximately 410 shots per charge) at $99 and a BCS-7 charger (approximately 90-minute rapid charge) at $119. Delivery is scheduled for late October 2026.
