Nikon and RED Tease New Cinematic Imaging Recipe Arriving December 10

Coming December 10, new Imaging Recipes for Nikon cameras developed by RED.

Information on this is admittedly very basic, but what we do know is that Nikon and RED are working together on a new recipe (or possibly recipes) for Nikon cameras that will hit the servers on December 10.

“The fusion of RED and Nikon technology has created a unique and more attractive expression than ever before,” Nikon writes. “We’ll give you an unprecedented recipe that will unleash your power of expression.”

Nine 'RED-curated' cinematic Imaging Recipes were promised at the launch of the ZR, which in turn is being increasingly referred to by the company as the RED ZR, so it's good to see this being delivered on so quickly.

Nikon first released 'RED-supervised' LUTs in September 2024, and the results were pretty impressive.

Unlocking RED color science via the Imaging Recipes function of Nikon's Imaging Cloud takes this all a step further. It's a pretty good feature already though, with some 120 recipes available for download and use from Nikon itself and a fairly stellar list of partner creators.

A lot of thought goes into them. Here's Marcello Zerletti's description of the look in the photo at the top of the article: "This look gives the images a slightly pastel, dreamy style with a subtle vintage feel. The colors are soft and saturated, especially the greens and blues. The contrast is gentle, and the light appears somewhat warmer, more diffuse, and almost fairy-tale-like. This look is particularly suitable for sunny days in the city and in nature."

Up to nine recipes can be installed on a camera at once. Compatibility is expanding too, and currently includes the Nikon Z50 II, Z5 II, Zf, Z6 III, and ZR.
