New HOVERAir AQUA Drone Can Take Off and Land in Water

Drones and water have never exactly been the best of friends, but the forthcoming HOVERAir AQUA plans to change all that when it launches, hopefully later this year.

As yet, details of the forthcoming  HOVERAir AQUA are few and far between. We know that it's going to be below that crucial 249 gram weight limit, and we know that it's waterproof with what the company claims to be over 15 specific waterproofing adaptations. It also promises 4k capture at 100 fps powered by a 'flagship-level' 1/1.3" CMOS coupled with a custom lens developed for water, and claims level 7 wind resistance (up to 33 knots) and a 33 mph / 55 kph top speed.

Beyond that, it's all about watching people throw it into the water. If you've ever flown a standard drone even near a deep puddle, watching this will give you all sorts of feels.

Watching some of the videos on the HOVERAir website, it looks like there's a matching waterproof controller that is worn on an arm band. The AQUA also features the standard tracking routines expected from the company, maintaining hands-free operation and autonomous subject tracking, which is definitely handy when you're on a surf board.

Price and release date are all currently TBA, though there is speculation that it will appear on Indiegogo soon.
