Avid's full Media Composer 2026.8 reveal covers Shared Projects, new AI tools and a Ready to Edit agentic feature, alongside the third-party storage tier change already reported.
Avid Media Composer 2026.8 has already created a bit of a fuss following the announcement that from this version on third-party bin locking is effectively moving to a premium tier. However, with its full reveal of all the features coming today, it is fair to say there’s a bit more to the new release than just that.
Available September 1, Avid says that Media Composer 2026.8 broadens Shared Projects collaboration and storage options. Avid NEXIS is now available for Shared Projects from the Standard tier upward, while, as we have already covered, the Enterprise tier adds support for qualified third-party storage solutions (which unfortunately disappear from lower tiers).
Media Composer First, the no-cost entry-level tier, is also expanded for students and new editors, though there are no details regarding that just yet.
Ready to Edit is a new agentic capability aimed at automating content preparation ahead of editing, and there will also be a closer connection between Media Composer and Avid Content Core, including a Content Core panel for accessing and publishing assets without leaving Media Composer.

More additions include Bin Column Search, the ability to swap audio tracks from a subclip, Titler+ keyframe rectification, and expanded APIs for automation and integration.
At IBC, Avid will also show the first preview of browser-based Media Composer workflows, starting with web-based editing in Avid Content Core, which could be a significant boost for Avid editors. There will also be a preview of embedded AI working through a new Google Gemini panel.
