Lomography Simple Use Half Frame camera: price, specs

Lomography has launched a half-frame version of its Simple Use Reloadable Film Camera in both black & white and color editions.

Following the success of the Fujifilm X half and the continual resurgence of shooting on film, Lomography has combined the two trends with the launch of a half-frame version of its Simple Use Reloadable Film Camera.

The camera is available in two editions, one preloaded with LomoChrome Classicolor ISO 200 color negative film, the other with Lady Grey black and white ISO 400 film. Both ship ready to shoot, with a battery, film, and built-in flash already installed. The color edition adds three interchangeable colored gel flash filters.

Unlike a standard 35mm frame, the half-frame format exposes a single 17 mm × 24 mm frame per shot, usable either as a vertical frame suited to social media or as one half of a diptych composition. The preloaded roll captures 40 photos. Once that roll is finished, the camera can be reloaded with any standard 35mm film, which will, of course, give you 72 frames from a 36-exposure roll. As the company’s slogan puts it, ‘Simple use, not single use.’

The built-in flash has a 15-second recharge time and runs on a single AAA battery (1.5 V, included). The lens is 21mm at f/9, with a fixed 1/120 s shutter speed and focusing range of 0.6 m to infinity.

Pricing and availability

Both half frame versions of the Simple Use Reloadable Film Camera are available now. The black & white edition costs $29.90 while the color one with those additional gels comes in at $34.90.
