GoPro Mission 1 Series: launch film and live preorder details

Written by Andy Stout | May 22, 2026 6:40:07 AM

GoPro celebrated the opening of preorders for the Mission 1 series by dropping a 7-minute video on YouTube entirely shot on the new cameras. And it is impressive stuff.

GoPro's "Welcome to a New Generation" showreel dropped yesterday and features footage from Chicago streets, the desert, underwater cenotes, forests, and mountain bike trails. It was shot by a roster of named filmmakers and claims every frame was captured on the Mission 1 Series.

It looks good, as you would expect a showreel to, but the company has also been careful to ensure that it shows the advances in many of the areas that were long-standing weaknesses of GoPro cameras, especially low light and slow motion quality. For whether it addresses some of the other issues that have long bedeviled the range, such as audio and charging speeds, you'll have to wait until our review next week.

In short though, it shows that yes, this really is a new generation, and an impressive one at that. Whether it arrives in time for the company as it explores its options for a sale or merger is a different matter entirely.

Everything on sale May 28

Just to back up a bit, the Mission 1 and Mission 1 Pro share the same 50 MP 1-inch sensor and GP3 processor. The key difference is frame rate ceiling: the Pro shoots 8K60, 4K240, and 1080p960 in 16:9, plus 8K30 and 4K120 Open Gate; the base Mission 1 tops out at 4K120 Open Gate and 1080p240 in 16:9. Both support 50 MP RAW photo capture. GoPro claims the GP3 processor delivers improvements in battery life and thermal performance over previous generations, with the new Enduro 2 battery rated for 5+ hours at 1080p30 or 3+ hours at 4K30.

Preorders are open now and this is all the confirmed pricing.

Mission 1 Pro — $699; $599 for existing GoPro subscribers. Available May 28.

Mission 1 Pro Grip Edition (camera plus Point-and-Shoot Grip) — $779; $679 for subscribers. Available May 28.

Mission 1 — $599; $499 for subscribers. Available May 28.

The Point-and-Shoot Grip is also available separately for $99.99. It functions as both a hand grip and a metal cage, with cold shoe mounts, a 1/4-20 thread, and magnetic latch mounting. Additional accessories available for pre-order include:

  • Enduro 2 Battery (2150 mAh, also compatible with HERO13 Black) — $34.99
  • Dual Battery Charger for Enduro 2 (charges two batteries from 0 to 80% in 48 minutes) — $79.99

The potential showstopper of the new series, the rather anticipated Mission 1 Pro ILS, which adds a Micro Four Thirds interchangeable lens mount, is not part of this pre-order wave and is expected in Q3 2026.
