Godox's ES01 motorized suction holder mounts small flashes and LEDs on glass, tile, and other smooth surfaces without a stand. It ships from $29.

Godox has unveiled the ES01, a motorized suction holder designed to hold a light in spots a traditional stand or clamp can't get to, such as on glass, tile, or car windows.

The ES01 attaches with a silicone suction cup that locks on with a press, and releases with a dedicated air release button rather than needing to be peeled off. According to Godox's instruction manual, the unit runs on a built-in 3.8 V, 200 mAh lithium battery, charges over USB-C in about an hour, and weighs approximately 69 g (2.4 oz). It measures 68 x 68 x 42 mm (2.7 x 2.7 x 1.7 in) and is rated for use between -10°C and 40°C (14°F and 104°F).

Godox's manual rates the suction cup's own holding capacity at up to 0.6 kg (1.3 lb) for a single base, and up to 2.0 kg (4.4 lb) when three are combined. Retail listings give a lower recommended payload for compatible lighting gear: 360 g (12.7 oz) for a single ES01, and 1.2 kg (2.6 lb) for the three-base ES01 K3 kit. The discrepancy is presumably down to Godox building in a safety margin between what the suction cup can physically hold and what it recommends mounting on it. Sensible

The ES01 mounts gear via a magnetic cold shoe adaptor for lightweight kit such as compact flashes, or via a 1/4"-20 cold-shoe adapter included in the box for heavier items. The three-base ES01 K3 kit also uses the 1/4"-20 threaded adapter mounted on a three-light connecting bracket.
