The power station market is fair fizzing at the moment, with the DJI Power 2000 Portable Power Station the latest entrant to compete for your recharging dollars.
It's been just over a year since DJI released the first models in its Power Series of power stations, and a year is a long time when power tech is moving so swiftly. The new DJI Power 2000 Portable Power Station ramps up capacity while optimizing the size-capacity ratio and features improved safety design too.
It features a 2048Wh capacity housed in a compact 32.6 litre body. That translates into a size of 448×225×324 mm / 17.64x8.86x12.76 in and a weight of 22 kg / 48.5 lb. Which is a fair amount of power in a small form factor.
Ports, buttons, and screens are all integrated on the front of the unit, making operation convenient. It features dual 140 W USB-C ports, dual 65 W USB-C ports, four USB-A ports, four AC output ports, two complete SDC ports, and two 1/4" threaded ports, allowing connection to a lot of kit and accessories. You can also connect up to 10 together, boosting the capacity to 22,528Wh and making it able to meet the off-the-grid power needs of a lot of video productions.
In terms of recharging, DJI reckons you can recharge a digital camera 118x, a laptop 18x, a drone 24x, and lighting equipment 2.4x. Obviously there's a lot of wiggle room in these numbers, but those are the basics. DJI claims over 80% capacity after 4000 cycles
As for filling it back up, you can choose from grid, solar, or car power. 2200 W of grid power gets it to 80% capacity in 55 minutes and full in 90; solar using the DJI Power 1.8kW Solar/Car Super Fast Charger is even faster, going from zero to full in 75 minutes, though that is using the car's alternator to top up the solar component and using plenty of solar panels. Cars and RVs on their own will top it up in 145 minutes.
The DJI Power 2000 retails at $1299 and is available now, with some deep discounts on it until the middle of the month that can bring that down to around $1099.
