DJI Osmo Pocket 4P: global price and launch confirmed

DJI's much-anticipated Osmo Pocket 4P is now finally available worldwide, with pricing significantly undercutting the rival Insta360 Luna Ultra, though the US remains excluded.

After an interminable launch campaign, DJI has officially launched the Osmo Pocket 4P, its first dual-lens pocket gimbal camera. The launch follows a long runway of teasers, a Cannes reveal in May, and China pre-orders in June that had already confirmed most of the hardware.

The wide-angle lens pairs a new 1-inch CMOS sensor with LOFIC technology, giving 17 stops of dynamic range and support for 4K240. It's a 20mm equivalent focal length at f/2.0. The second lens is a 60mm medium-telephoto with an f/1.8 aperture (f/6.3 equivalent depth of field), offering 3x optical zoom extendable to 12x. A new 10-bit D-Log 2 color profile, capable of over one billion colors, is shared across both lenses.

None of this is new: all of it matched what DJI's China site confirmed when pre-orders opened there in June. What today's launch adds is the rest of the picture: pricing, availability, and the full list of features and accessories not previously detailed.

Other features shipping with the Pocket 4P include 8x ultra-HD slow motion at 4K240, Slow Shutter Video for light-trail and motion-blur effects, and subject tracking that holds at up to 12x zoom, called ActiveTrack 8.0 in today's global materials (DJI's China site called the same feature Smart Follow 8.0, so this may be a rebrand for global markets).

New shooting controls include Instant Recording (rotating the touchscreen powers on and starts recording) and gesture control (an open palm triggers ActiveTrack, a "V" sign starts recording). Stills get a 37 MP High-Res Photo mode, confirming a lower resolution than the 48 MP telephoto sensor some pre-launch leaks had predicted, plus a 4K Live Photo mode that captures a 1.5-second clip alongside each still.

The body weighs 230 g (8.1 oz) and uses a 3-axis mechanical gimbal for stabilization, with a 2.0-inch, 1000-nit touchscreen and a 1545 mAh battery, both confirmed back in June but not repeated in today's release. Battery charges from 0 to 80% in 18 minutes, for up to 210 minutes of runtime. USB 3.1 supports transfer speeds up to 800 MB/s. It comes in black and pearl white.

The Osmo Pocket 4P comes with a wide-ranging ecosystem, including the Osmo Pocket 4 Fill Light, Osmo Pocket 4P Black Mist Filter, Osmo Pocket 4P ND Filters Set, Osmo FrameTap, Osmo Pocket 4 Battery Handle, Osmo Pocket 4P Wide-Angle Lens, Osmo Mini Tripod, and OsmoAudio microphones, sold separately or in select combos.

The all-important pricing

Pricing is confirmed for the first time outside China: the Standard Combo is £529 (€599), and the Vlog Combo is £605 (€689). Both are available now via store.dji.com and authorized retailers. DJI Care Refresh is also available, with 1-year (two replacements) and 2-year (four replacements) plans.

That undercuts the closest rival, the Insta360 Luna Ultra, at every tier. The Luna Ultra's Standard Bundle is £649 (€799), £120 more than the Pocket 4P's Standard Combo, and its Creator Bundle, the closest match to DJI's Vlog Combo on accessories, is £829 (€929), £224 / €240 more than the Pocket 4P equivalent.

DJI's Canadian site gives a pricing in USD: $619 for the Standard Combo, $699 for the Vlog Combo. That's substantially below the Luna Ultra's US prices of $769.99 and $969.99 for the equivalent Standard and Creator bundles. Here's a link to the Canadian listing. Happy driving...
