Canon has announced the CINE-SERVO 40-1200mm T5.0-10.8, a new ultra-telephoto cine-servo zoom lens.
Before you read on, understand that we’re firmly in “If you have to ask, you can’t afford it territory.”
The 40-1200mm lens succeeds the CINE-SERVO 50-1000mm T5.0-8.9 with an expanded focal range and a built-in 1.5x extender that pushes maximum reach to 1800mm. Canon claims it as the longest focal length among servo zoom lenses compatible with large-format sensor cameras. Essentially, there is nothing else like this on the market.
Despite the added range, the lens retains a similar physical profile to its predecessor, weighing just under 6.8 kg (15 lb) with a length of 406 mm (16 inches, PL-mount version). An RF-mount version is also available. Zoom, focus, and iris ring positions match the earlier lens, allowing existing rigs to carry over.
Native coverage is Super 35mm, with full-frame coverage available via the integrated extender.
The PL-mount version supports Zeiss eXtended Data and Cooke /i Technology for virtual production workflows.
The CINE-SERVO 40-1200mm T5.0-10.8 is scheduled to ship in September 2026, priced at $79,999. Yes, that much. Even for a CINE-SERVO lens this is expensive.
