RedShark Awards

Just before IBC in Amsterdam, we’re announcing the formation of the RedShark Awards. Compared to what the industry is used to, they’re different. Here’s why.

RedShark is three years old now. It really doesn't seem like it until you realise we've published nearly three thousand original articles in that time.

The whole industry seems to have embraced RedShark, and we have more unique readers on our site every month than the combined number of visitors to IBC and NAB each year!

Talking of IBC, we thought it was time for something new as this important show draws near.

So, today, we're announcing the RedShark Awards for the best products we've seen at trade shows, starting at IBC this September.

These are not "official" awards sanctioned by any trade show or organisation. They're our independent choices based on what our judges think are the best products.

And we're going to do it differently, too.

So, to enter the RedShark awards, you don't need to pay anything. This is not a "Pay to Win" award.

Why are we doing this? Just because we want to give something back to the industry that's helped us grow so quickly.

There are two types of award. First, a product can win the "best of category". There are nine categories altogether, covering a spectrum from Best Cinema Camera, though Post Production, to Best Audio Product. We're putting together a panel of distinguished judges to choose the best product in each group.

Then, we have the RedShark Readers’ Choice. Watch out for a Readers' Poll around the time of IBC.

This will be a completely independent choice for the best product as voted for by our Readers. That's why it means so much. There's no fee to enter, it’s a completely unbiased "Best Of Show” award chosen by our readers.

If you're a manufacturer with a product in any of our ten categories, please email awards@redsharknews.com to be entered and considered by our judges.

If you're an exhibitor or distributor, please email awards@redsharknews.com to suggest any product that we should be considering.

And RedShark readers: please let us know about any product that is likely to be at IBC that you think is worthy of an award, by emailing awards@redsharknews.com.

(Note to manufacturers - if you are announcing a product at the show and don't want it mentioned in advance, contact RedShark at "editor@redsharknews.com"; so that we can discuss it. We will respect everyone's confidentiality.)

We want suggestions from everyone.

On the first day of the show, we'll put the "Reader's Poll" on RedShark's front page. You can vote until Midnight on Sunday night. We will announce the winners on Monday. Please note that everyone can vote for this. IBC is a European show but it has global significance.

Let's make the most of the chance to have some really meaningful awards, where no money has changed hands, and where everybody's vote counts.

Here are the award categories:

Best Action Camera
Best Entry Level Camera
Best Documentary Camera
Best Cinema Camera
Best Quadcopter/ Drone
Best Audio Product
Best Editing/Post award
IBC Newcomer Award
