Blackmagic Camera App 3.2 for iOS has been released, and with it comes some impressive new streaming capabilities.
The Blackmagic Camera App has been steadily piling on the features since release, and is perhaps one of the best — and still agreeably free — ways to unlock the full camera potential of your smartphone. V 3.2 is possibly one of its more consequential releases too, as Blackmagic positions it as a live streaming tool.
Headline feature is undoubtedly native support for live streaming to YouTube, Vimeo and Twitch, which is going to simplify and speed up the process of getting content from your iPhone in front of your audience. All camera controls can be adjusted in realtime on the fly. Not far behind it, though, is the ability to stream in SRT to Blackmagic streaming processors or, indeed, use the phone to stream direct to custom RTMP and SRT servers.
This makes the iPhone all the more palatable to people setting up live production broadcast ecosystems. We've already seen iPhone contribution in Major League Baseball games this year, and the Blackmagic Camera App was an integral part of making that happen. Keep this up and it won't be long before we're heralding the first all iPhone sports broadcast.
Elsewhere, there's also improved feedback when connecting or disconnecting external storage. This is joined by the useful option to select number of multi-view angles for remote control on iPad and Mac.
A new Android version has dropped as well, Blackmagic Camera App for Android v3.1.2 adding Samsung Log support for Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Z Fold 7, fixed 8K support for Samsung S25, and general performance and stability improvements. Despite v3.0 appearing on iOS and Android at the same time in September, v.3.1.2 has already appeared in October on iOS, so Android is now running a month and an iteration behind. Hopefully though the new streaming features are coming to Android soon.
