Beeble Background Remover: AI rotoscoping tool for fast token-friendly alpha mattes

Beeble's new Background remover AI rotoscoping tool promises fast, production-ready alpha mattes from video and image sequences that use up less AI tokens than a full pass.

Beeble has launched Background Remover, an AI-powered rotoscoping tool available now on its web platform that targets one of post-production's more labor-intensive and unpopular tasks.

This is becoming a rapidly crowded field, with new tools from both established big players and new entrants. Using AI models, Background Remover automatically generates foreground masks from video, images, or image sequences, Beeble saying it can handle complex motion, occlusion, and fine detail including hair and motion blur.

Users can batch-process up to 20 video or image files at a time, or work with image sequences of up to 2000 frames, though reportedly this currently seems to be limited to up to 2K resolution.

A preview frame generates instantly before full processing commits, saving credits, and an interactive masking interface lets users refine subject selection for more complex shots. A Skip Review mode is also available, bypassing the preview step entirely for straightforward shots with clear subjects.

Export formats include 10-bit RGBA video with embedded alpha channels, RGBA PNG sequences for frame-by-frame compositing, and alpha-only outputs in both video and image sequence formats.

Pricing and availability

Background Remover is built on the same AI masking model as Beeble's existing VFX Pass Generator, which runs on the company's SwitchLight 3.0 AI model, but is presented as a standalone addition to the cloud service with a workflow optimized for speed.

It also looks to be more credit efficient than running a full pass every time. As Digital Production points out,  Background Remover is listed at 1 credit per second of video, and 1 credit per image. VFX Pass Generator is listed at 3 credits per second of video, and 3 credits per image.

The tool is available on Creator ($19/month or $192/year, 540 credits/month) and Professional ($75/month or $720/year, 2400 credits/month) plans; it is not available on the free tier.
