Avid says new AI and automation advances will speed up editorial creation, storage, and delivery across a lot of its software including Media Composer and Pro Tools.
Avid has been adding AI tools into its software since at least IBC2023, but it's definitely not one of the companies you would most associate with them. For one reason or another it's taken a quite softly softly approach to the technology. This is starting to change, however, and noticeably with the latest versions of its leading packages at this year's show.
Native AI Features in Avid Tools
Its IBC showcase highlights integrations that bring AI enhancements directly into the timeline. These include:
- Pro Tools, Media Composer and MediaCentral AI speech-to-text and transcription – Enhanced ScriptSync and PhraseFind with built-in AI transcription and new translation capabilities.
- Pro Tools automation and scripting with Soundflow and the Pro Tools Scripting SDK – Enables custom automations and shortcuts for faster audio workflows.
- Avid NEXIS APIs – Expanded management APIs to streamline storage administration and automate media handling across third-party environments.
- Avid DNx 4.0 – Customizable bitrates and HDR-ready formats, with built-in automation for transcoding, proxy creation and delivery.
Third Party AI Integrations
It's also leaning heavily into partner integrations in this context as well. It says that it has more than 600 worldwide partners signed up to its ecosystem, which illustrates the breadth of its software offering. In the context of its post tools at IBC, it will be showing new Media Composer Panels that drop some of these third-party AI innovations directly into the timeline. Partnerships on show in Amsterdam will include:
- Quickture (Media Composer Panel) – Fast, AI-powered transcription and sequence creation through natural language requests.
- Flawless (DeepEditor for Media Composer) – Powerful AI-assisted lip sync tool for Media Composer, giving creative control to easily add, localize, modify, transfer, or remove dialogue in post.
- Acclaim Audio (ESION Studio Panel) – Enhance dialogue instantly with AI-powered audio tools inside Media Composer, featuring volume leveling, loudness normalization, noise reduction, and automatic removal of filler words.
- Digital Nirvana (MetadataIQ for MediaCentral and Media Composer) – AI-powered workflows for scene descriptions, detailed audio & video metadata, and sequence creation across live and archived content.
- Streamwell (Media Composer Panel) – Low-latency live streaming and remote collaboration tools, customizable for broadcasters and creatives.
