Apple's MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display is a tandem OLED laptop with Touch, available to pre-order today from $2899. It ships November 6.
Drumroll please. Apple has introduced the MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display, a tandem OLED panel in 14- and 16-inch models. And if you thought previous Macs were expensive, it’s time to recalibrate your opinions. These machines start at $2899, $700 more than their non-touchscreen screen forefathers.
But, despite the company being famously resistant to the concept, these are finally the first Mac with Touch. The sensor is built into the display panel, and macOS translates touches into clicks, with the idea being many existing apps work with it immediately. Updated system gesture APIs are available to developers, and Apple lists Adobe Lightroom, DaVinci Resolve, Blender, Maxon Cinema 4D, Maxon ZBrush, Shapr3D, Algoriddim djay Pro, Notion, Canva, Zoom, and Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook as apps that will support Touch later this year. For now, Pixelmator Pro, Logic Pro, and Final Cut Pro in Apple Creator Studio are already optimized for it with their new versions dropping next month.
The Dynamic Island also finally arrives on Mac as the home for Spotlight, Live Activities, and Siri AI.
For those looking nervously at the iPhone Duo “crackgate” problems, Apple says a redesigned hinge improves stability, and video stabilization smooths the camera feed on video calls while Touch is in use.
This has plenty of pro-level tools to ensure color-critical workflows proceed as planned. The Apple Pro Display Calibrator and industry-standard reference modes are included, along with DICOM modes for nondiagnostic review, research, and education. Apple says its Color Matching Function 2026 aligns the display with iPhone 18 Pro and Studio Display XDR. Genlock support synchronizes the display refresh rate with camera capture, enabled by compatible third-party hardware and software.
The new machines are based on the M5 Pro and M5 Max chips, already making them effectively a generation behind yesterday’s latest announced M6 MacBooks. They’re no slouches though. M5 Pro and M5 Max support up to 128 GB of unified memory, and storage is configurable up to 16 TB. Each GPU core has a Neural Accelerator, and the GPU has enhanced shader cores, a third-generation ray-tracing engine, and Dynamic Caching. M5 Max can run LLMs with hundreds of billions of parameters on device.
The six-speaker system has a new woofer for 50% deeper bass and supports Spatial Audio with Dolby Atmos. Audio is tuned for closed-lid use with an external display.
Connectivity is as you would expect for such a pro-targeted machine, and is covered with three Thunderbolt 5 ports, HDMI, an SDXC card slot, MagSafe, and a headphone jack. M5 Pro supports up to three external displays and M5 Max up to four, which will be something to see. WiFi 7, Bluetooth 6, Touch ID, and a 12 MP Center Stage camera are included.
