The amaran Cam captures 4K60 and adjusts connected amaran lights to match what it sees. It costs $249 and is available now.
amaran has announced the amaran Cam, its first webcam, and earns itself an over-achiever award by integrating a novel Auto Lighting feature into it as well.
The camera captures 4K60 with a 1/1.3" sensor and an f/1.68 aperture. It has all the features you would expect: 2× lossless zoom while maintaining full 4K resolution, and autofocus that locks onto subjects in under 1/4 second with reduced focus hunting. Up to four amaran Cams can be connected, with quick switching between views. Rotating the webcam switches to native 9:16 output at up to 4K60, without cropping, and it is tuned to a range of different skin tones.
The Auto Lighting feature is where the differentiation is, and as far as we know it’s a first. It analyzes the exposure on the creator’s face through the amaran Desktop App and adjusts connected amaran lights, reaching what the company says is a camera-ready result in 10 seconds.
amaran started with lighting, and at launch Auto Lighting supports up to two compatible amaran lights, with plans to expand support to more complex multi-light setups through future software updates. For two-light setups there are three looks: Even for clean, balanced lighting; Defined for added shape and depth; or Bold for stronger contrast and mood.
It works with all the usual suspects such as OBS Studio, Streamlabs, Twitch, Zoom, Teams, and more. Size is 7.39 x 3.78 x 3.28 cm (2.91 x 1.49 x 1.29 in), and the camera weighs 69 g (0.15 lb).
The amaran Cam costs $249 and is available now. A streaming bundle with amaran Verge lighting and the amaran Mic is also available starting at $415 (one light and stand) and $545 (two lights and stands).
