7Artisans' new PL Lens Adapter Kit brings cinema glass to Sony E, Nikon Z, Canon RF, and L-Mount mirrorless cameras for $179 all-in.
Using cinema glass on a mirrorless body has always required either deep pockets or an uncomfortable degree of compromise, sometimes both. 7Artisans' new PL Lens Adapter Kit takes a pragmatic approach to squaring the circle: one central adapter body, four interchangeable mounts, and a $179 price tag.
The kit covers Sony E-mount, Nikon Z-mount, Canon RF, and L-Mount cameras, meaning it spans the majority of full-frame mirrorless systems in active use apart from Fujifilm X-mount.
The design incorporates a rotating locking mechanism with a raised handle and anti-slip textured ring. This helps it handle the weight and bulk associated with PL-mount cinema lenses. 7Artisans also claims tight mechanical tolerances and accurate flange distance, which matters when it comes to preventing focus inconsistency, particularly when using longer lenses.
It weighs between 151-162 grams (5.33-5.71 oz) depending on what mount is being used. The kit includes the main adapter body, the four interchangeable mounts, mounting screws, and a hex key. That makes swapping between camera systems a tool-assisted process rather than a tool-free one.
PL adapters are becoming increasingly popular, witness the response to the Viltrox NexusFocus F1 or the Tilta Nucleus Autofocus Adapter. But while they both provide more advanced AF capabilities to older glass, they're both focused on E-mount. The 7Artisans PL Lens Adapter might be manual focus only, but being able to bridge across four formats in the one kit is a definite practical advantage for anyone running a multi-camera setup.
The 7Artisans PL Lens Adapter Kit is priced at $179 and available now in silver and the rather fetching purple finish that debuted with the company's Floral Bloom line.
