This is amazing! But what is it for?

MyMultitouch/RedShark4K 84

Here's a product by German company My Multitouch that's going to make everyone go "wow", and then say "but what would I use that for?"

It's an 84" 32 point multitouch screen with a native resolution of 4K. Any one of those statistics is impressive but put them all together and you get..? Well, what, exactly?

I can see a few uses for this. It's going to be a great way to navigate round architectural visualisations and is perfect for customers in virtual car showrooms. You can see it having a place in museums as well, as a means to show of artefacts that are too valuable or fragile to be on display.

It's quite expensive

It's obviously not cheap, at something over €40,000, and that's not going to make it unsellable, it is going to restrict its ubiquity somewhat.

In this video from Slashgear, there's something else as well. It's a USB stick containing a complete Android computer. In fact it's the source of most of the graphics in the video, albeit "only" in HD resolution. We're as surprised as the guy from Slashgear to find out that it's only around €70, and it's feeding decent-looking graphics to this huge screen.

All of this is perhaps an illustration that technology is still accelerating, although in this case, we're not quite sure where's it's going to end up.
