The World's Smallest 4K OB Van

1 minute read

NIMB3 wheels, 8 cameras, 4K

Denmark's NIMB.tv has joined forces with Lundfilm Aps Producer/Director Troels Lund to create what it confidently calls the smallest 4K OB van in the world.

Dubbed with admirable Scandinavian economy Den lille OB-vogn (The Tiny OB Van), the unit is housed in the sort of Piaggio three-wheeler moped van that you normally see dispensing coffee to commuters outside suburban railway stations. This enables it to be positioned right at the heart of any live production, or indeed any hard to access urban environment.

It is based around Blackmagic Design's ATEM Production Studio 4K and can handle up to eight cameras, all powered by a single household power connector. It can live stream in Full HD using 3G, 4G or LAN, while a director switches using a 46in LED multiviewer using an ATEM 1 M/E Production Panel. A HyperDeck Studio Pro SSD records the action in anything from SD to 4K, while capture and playback is handled by Blackmagic’s UltraStudio 4K.

Not a gimmick

It's not just a gimmick either. Den lille OB-vogn has already been booked out for the boot camp stages of Denmark's version of the X-Factor which plans to feature locations across Copenhagen.

Is 4K perfect, or pointless, or both?
